About time!!!
MCG Foundation expects to buy city bus depot by December | The Augusta Chronicle
The sale would allow the foundation to move forward with its plans of creating a downtown gateway to the medical district and redeveloping the 15th Street corridor that runs along Wall Street and Walton Way toward Chafee Avenue. Redevelopment plans call for a future hotel, upscale restaurants and a new grocer, which could be a Walmart Neighborhood Market, a Kroger or one of several other grocery store chains, said Osborne, who also envisions the site to include abundant green space.

This spring, the foundation purchased several parcels, including a Chinese restaurant, TitleMax and two apartment buildings, surrounding the city’s bus depot. Demolition of those structures is projected to start soon, Osborne said. “We expect all of those buildings to be demolished by the end of the year,” he said. While demolition of the older buildings now owned by the foundation will soon commence, Osborne said the Kroger shopping center will remain untouched at least “until we get our final plans developed for the gateway,” he said. During the demolition phase, Osborne said he expects to finalize more facets of the project.

The hotel probably won't be discussed any further in detail until sometime later on this year. The city was going to sell the bus depot property(3.5 acres)to an private developer(Walmart market & other businesses), but the MCG Foundation got mad with the city's decision. The Foundation(owns property in Harrisburg, owner of the Kroger shopping center, etc) already had their own plans for developing the corridor. The irony of the whole situation is the MCG Foundation still negotiating on the Walmart Market... Unless the negotiations are for the purpose of understanding whether the market had the potential to support two grocery store's in close proximity.

Dr. Azizz did a poor job of the handling the name change, but you have to give him credit for the growth and fundraising efforts..

This much growth in such a small compact area..
https://www.google.com/maps/@33.4722...6G6Br9psPg!2e0

1. Cancer Center/crosswalk over 15th street (Augusta would become the 2nd NCI Cancer Center in the state after Emory in Atlanta)
2. $1 million Laney Walker pedestrian park
3. $76.5 million Medical Commons
4. $50 million renovation of the old dental school
5. 25 acre commercial development(grocery store, restaurants, greenspace, hotel)
6. 4 story residential building at 1399 Walton Way

Or the Board of Regents have decided to open up the purse strings like never before, this would be happening whether Azziz was here or not. It's not solely because he's here, unless he's the greatest snake-oil salesman ever in presenting to the BOR. Hospital morale is still pretty low by the way, largely due to his managerial style, little Napoleon walks the halls of MCG. I'm very much impressed with the expansion going on, but it's not JUST because Azziz is here.

The overall leadership should be called into question and the morale is still low around the whole community. The leadership skills don't take away from the recent fundraising efforts..

The dominating attitude doesn't turn me off, because even Dr. Azziz acknowledge that he didn't recognize the celebrities while at Cedars-Sinai in LA..

Why didn't the BOR invest this much before Azziz came to Augusta? The BOR is contributing more funds to GRU compared to the much bigger UGA, GT, GA State, and Georgia Southern..
