There's a couple suite hotels in the Arboretum area (NW Austin) one is Embassy Suites and Residence Inn there's also Staybridge suites,Hyatt Summerfield Suites,Springhill Suites my parents live in Westlake Eanes which is the school district for Weslake is a really good school district. In Houston there's several hotels around the Galleria that are suite hotels one hotel my parents like to stay at when they visit Houston is the Doubletree Guest Suites by the Galleria on Westheimer and there's also a Sheraton Suites by the Galleria off 610 West Loop both are close to the Memorial area.

I think we are leaning towards West Lake in Austin and Memorial in Houston. Thank you.
Both are excellent choices, regardless of which city you choose. Also, perhaps you might want to check out the area around Rice University in Houston as well–it's pretty close to Memorial (a lot of my family lives in Memorial and River Oaks).

Westlake has Eanes ISD, which is simply an awesome school district, ranked one of the top in the nation, BTW.

There's an Embassy Suites in Austin off Congress and Barton Springs Road that gives you direct access to Westlake. It's a safe hotel.

Don't know as much about Westlake, but there are a few of those near Memorial.

There are quite a few Koreans living in the Far West division in Austin, lots of them going to Doss and Murchison. But it does look like the OP is going for Eanes.

Westlake the area or Westlake HS?

WLHS is a great school, but in your OP you asked about larger Asian (Korean) populations.

Westwood HS (not Westlake) has 20% + Asian demographic (vs i think 7% at Westlake). Both are great schools (possibly the top two in Austin)....but they are located in different areas.

If you moved to Austin, where would your employment be located. (this should factor into your consideration as well)

Anyone know how the demographics & test scores for the new Vandegrift HS is shaping up? I suspect it will be 10% + Asian & off the charts good test scores....but who knows with a brand new school.

The 2010 Accountability ratings are pending and should be available on the TEA website soon.

FYI:

LTISD announced last week that the district earned Exemplary status. Lake Travis High School jumped from Acceptable to Exemplary. Every campus is at least Recognized now.

I went to Westwood High School in the mid - late 1990's, and there were a lot of Asian students there back then, so I bet there are even more now.

Boh wouldn't be bad choices. I think Houston may be a better for your family since the Asian community is much larger. Not to mention it's closer in size to Chicago than Austin is (6 million in Houston's metro versus 1.8 in Austin). God to visit both places though.

it's not a good thing to ask that here, austinites hate houston ^^
In the Texas forum opinions would be more objective

I would say Houston because Houston asian community is larger, and the housing is cheaper ! But it's just my opinion
