Why do people do this? I've honked at several folks who, despite the drought, feel free to throw out a lit cigarette out the window. Don't they have an ash tray??? Don't they know that it's trash, but more importantly, could start a fire?? Nasty AND thoughtless!!!

I guess not everyone reads CD 24 hours a day. I've seen it many times over the past couple of weeks.

You know they probably don't have an ashtray - I don't think cars come with them any more.

I am not criticizing you, I am just going to sit back and enjoy the show.

Last time we had someone who insisted that littering was fine, that Cigarette butts can't start fires, and they are biodegradeable anyway.

I can't wait to see the nonsense spouted this time.

I guess I can't understand how something that's on fire won't start a fire. I also can't understand how throwing a piece of trash out the window could be ok. Somethings I guess I'm just destined to never know. I didn't realize there was a prior thread about it. Maybe it should be a sticky....

Most new cars actually dont have an ashtray but a plastic drink bottle with a little liquid left in the bottom makes a handy stink free cigarette butt container.

If I am driving on patrol and see the cherry from a cigarette come from your car and hit the ground, the only reason I would not pull you over is if I was already on my way to an emergency call for service. When I do pull someone over for that I also tend to pay close attention to all the particulars. Is inspection and registration current? All lights working properly? Addresses updated on drivers license and license plate? Do you have a front license plate? Have you modified your vehicle in any such way that may effect the proper functioning of your vehicle emissions?

On two occasions I stopped people for people tossing cigarette butts I have made warrant arrest.

Imagine that. You throw out your cigarette butt and end up going to jail, getting you car towed and getting several hundred dollars worth of administrative citations.

A little harsh? Maybe. All I can tell you is that in the second grade my poster won the "Keep Texas Beautiful" poster contest. It changed my life.
