I know, I know, countless threads have been posted about this
but in light of last night's devastation, PLEASE.....to those of you who still think it's ok to throw a burning ember onto dry grass, DON'T. The house that goes up in flames could be yours!!!

yeah, I think you're speaking to the wrong crowd. You actually have to go to the hoods where people simply don't give a rat's butt. That wouldn't be here. But I get your message, because nothing incenses me more (uh, sorry for that) than idiots throwing out ANYTHING from a car. I see it here more in San Antonio than anywhere else in Texas. "it's a cultural thing" is what we've been told.

Sounds to me Texas Parks & Wildlife or the same folks that do the "Don't Mess With Texas" campaign need to get a hold of this LONG-IGNORED problem.

I watched a guy in Houston a couple weeks ago ahead of me in the line at Jack in the Box (Drive thru) ...get his food, pull up 15 feet, roll down his window, and throw all his breakfast trash (?) out the window...a giant cup, some kind of wrapper for something and a bag full of stuff. Then he casually rolled his window up and drove off.

Not before I got his license plate number and called in a hit though

JK...did call the police, but I'm sure they've got better things to do in Houston...

I'm not trying to be a pig here, but I don't think they know how the fires started yet. Actually, the one in Bastrop started in a neighborhood. My guess is someone was starting up a grill, but I don't know.

I see this nearly daily on my commute to work...it makes my blood boil. You know, cars come with ashtrays.

I wonder if we could get someone to come on here and explain why they feel this is appropriate behavior.

This problem is "hood independent." I see people flick their butts out of their Mercedes on my drive to work in the morning. Cigarette smokers are just too vain to put the butts out in their car.

Yes, but it doesn't take a genius to know that the numerous grass fires along the medians of the highways are mostly from cigarette butts.

I know that they do, but in this case I'm not sure that's why. A roadside fire happened in Katy yesterday because the winds blew against some power lines, causing a spark to fall on the grass and ignite. They managed to stop it before it hit buildings. I would also hope people decide not to light up their grills or burn trash today.

anything that could potentially result in a fire under these circumstances should result in a massive fine if not more.
