There were quite some rain earlier today in Bastrop - I'd say at least 1/4". Please don't tell me we did not get any in Austin.

It was cloudy for an hour or so and I heard 3 rain drops hit the kitchen vent in SW Austin.

I checked the satellite when it was raining in Bastrop, saw the big green patch moving around Austin area and thought for sure we'd have some rain Austin. How disappointing........

We did get some rain right around the Barton Creek Mall area. Nothing more than a few 1/100s of an inch, probably, but I was walking back from lunch and it felt wonderful .

So today we're at 73 total 100 degree days.

There was a great weather blog entry about the record from a few days ago:
1925 record falls after 86 years | KXAN.com Blogs

I especially like this:
Quote:
Prior to 2009, we often wondered whether Austin’s heat wave records from the 1920s were really accurate. After all, we’d never even been close to experiencing 66 days of triple digit heat, as recorded in 1923, much less the 69 day record from 1925. In fact, until we recorded 50 days in 2008, the closest we had come was 42 days back in 2000. The summers of 2009 and 2011 have put the matter to rest.
Interestingly, prior to 2009 the top 2 summers were 1925 (69 days) and 1925 (66 days). Now we've had two very similar years in 2011 (73 days and counting) and 2009 (68) -- also separated by a 1-year gap.

Could this be a pattern repeating itself? Let's hope so -- because after the former "double peak" three year pattern of 1925, there wasn't another summer even close for 84 years. In fact, there wasn't even a year over 30 days of 100 for nearly 28 years after 1925; the next ones started coming during the drought of the 1950s.

Great info! I hope this holds true.

90 days of triple digit temps. The old record was obliterated.

Do you think we'll break some temps this winter too?
