Whatcha gonna do?
Guess we're gonna head 'back east' to our North Carolina mountain house for a couple of weeks. Of course, that means the August weather will be nicer HERE since we're driving 1100 miles to escape it! My hometown of Columbia, SC is 101 for the next couple of days; can't win for losin' .

I'm thinking this may be the year. Brown lawns, watering restrictions, preying for rain. Just another way of keeping Austin wierd (or keeping Austin desertlike) I suspect before long, some of those "Awful Californians" may be eyeing those ever growing islands on Lake Travis for their next McMansion creation!
Oh for a second I thought 69 was the new change to withdrawl SS, but my bad; It's 70 yrs of age.

Oh as for 100+ degree's. I am cool with it, it's nice for it to feel like a sauna outside, plus my tan is looking really good

Ok, adjusting for the puttering out of Don, my 100 degree total days adjust back up by 3 to 74 total days this summer. August looks like it won't disappoint in the triple digit category.

LOL we drove to Denver, Colorado for a week last July, 2010, thinking we would escape some of the heat here, only to find ourselves in a Colorado heat wave. The one day we spent in Evergreen it was cooler then Austin, but the rest of the week was hotter then Austin.

Ouch. I'm worried about the same thing happening when I escape to DC next week.

Don's not going to be the only tropical event to affect Texas [which it barely did, I know]. There's already a couple more significant storms brewing in the Atlantic that could potentially head into the Gulf....this is forecasted to be a busy tropical season, so hopefully there will be a couple events in August that will keep us from breaking that record.

Speaking of Don, at 4:30pm, the temp is actually DOWN from a high today of 98 at Mabry to 97, with a heat index of 101. Can you tell the difference +/- 5 degrees??

Yes I can, I thought today was much nice than the 102 to 103 we've been having.

However, have you seen the forecast for later this week - 107 predicted, ouch!

One of those is headed for the east coast and who knows where the other one will end up. Probably florida or louisiana.

That's just conjecture. Even the meteorologists at this point don't know where they'll head after they hit the Caribbean...whether it's the gulf, the coast, or nowhere depends on a number of factors which will unfold later this week.

Plus, new tropical waves are popping up around the Atlantic Basin each week, so the chances of Texas getting some rain relief during this tropical season didn't disappear with Don...

I sure hope that's the case. Next week looks horrific. 105+ degree days all week.
