Hello,

My wife and I are moving to Austin in the next 6-8 weeks. Which areas have horse properties (3+ acres of land plus home) - outside of town, easy to moderate commute? Looking to rent a house with some land - what can we expect in terms of prices? Where do we look (which neighborhoods, towns etc.)? Any info appreciated!

Thanks,
OD

It's going to be a bit tricky finding a place for rent for you and your horses, but sometimes it can be done. I'd recommend looking in Williamson County (Georgetown and east, both because of availability and because of the soil; you're more likely to find horse-friendly soils east of I35), Elgin (definite horse country there and lots of horse properties and you might find one for rent), and down towards Lockhart/Bastrop). It's possible to find pockets of good soil (as in, won't break your horses' legs) west of I35, Dripping Springs has a few, and out towards Leander/Liberty Hill, but that's a ways out.

Price will depend on where you land - east will be less than west. And what kind/size of house you want. And whether school districts are an issue.

Thank you very much - we have no children so no need to look for a great school district.

Default La Ventana

La Ventana in Driftwood, just south of town may have some homes for rent and definitely have homes for sale that are equestrian. Commute is under 30 mins to downtown. Here is their website:

Where you will be working is a major consideration, simply because of Austin's awe-inspiring traffic. If you're working on the north side of town, a south side location won't do much for you.

5 acre Horse property for rent outside of Austin, Texas.
300x300 riding arena with lights, 2 pastures, very nice barn, all wood faces (very safe), house on 1.5 acre and completely dog fenced, 30x30 dog kennel, 2000 sq ft house (3/2) and 1200 sq foot garage, very large deck with hot tub.
5 minutes from 130 and 79 in Hutto

I am relocating to Maryland to be close to my elderly father, so I am offering my ranch for rent. (As a horse person, I know how hard it is to find a horse property rental)

How many horses? What is your price range? It's not easy, but sometimes it can be done, and sometimes folks with a house on the market that's not moving will lease it out.
