As much as I'd love to see it, I honestly don't know.

What our city needs for the residents here today — as well as those who are moving here — is an honest process without a pre-ordained outcome that is oriented around solving peak-hour vehicular congestion and an open-mindedness to what those solutions may be.

Who is the quote from?

I do worry about how streets like S. First and Lamar are going to handle all the new traffic from the new condo/apartments complexes going up.

ne.
expanding roads, tolls, HOV lanes are the best solutions. They have been used in every city that is larger than austin and they work.

Cities larger than Austin have the same or similar traffic problems. Expanding roads does not reduce traffic. The only viable long-term solution is probably congestion pricing.

Yea, I agree. NoVa, where I was earlier today, is a great example. Some combinstion of that, van pools, express busses, and limited commuter rail. Problem is, the calcification. The "don't build it, they won't come" crowd drowns out any discussion.

Those new apartments/ condos are the solution to traffic woes, not the problem. Who causes more traffic people who live close in and have 2 mile commutes and who very well may walk, ride a bike or take transit vs people who travel 20 miles in a car.

Yep. That and many people will live there, but drive up or out to the tech corridors. With most new job growth actually outside of "downtown" Austin, providing more housing central will help create some reverse commute options for folks that want the in-city lifestyle without sanitizing the hell out of it (ala Arboreteum/ Domain).

Austin needs trains, commuter trains that run frequently.

Not gondolas, horses, rickshaws, car pool lanes, hang gliders, skateboard or scooter lanes, not moving sidewalks or commuter trebuchets.

Trains.

That'll do it.

You forgot Zip Lines! Heck, you could get from the Austonian to The Domain in no time flat. Plus you could charge by the pound and encourage weight loss!
