They often have an impact on Central Texas. Those of us who live in the country and pay really really close attention to the weather (it only takes on F5 to focus your attention for a LONG time, though record drought does it, as well, when you're looking at 55 acres of pasture that can't be watered drying up and nothing you can do about it and surrounding corn crops dying in the field) are well aware of this. Not so much, as I recall, when you live in the city - it's just nowhere near as in your face as it is out in the country.

You people need to get a dictionary out. Nothing about tropical systems happen "often" in central Texas.

Does it ever snow in Austin?
Yes, but not often.

Sorry, but most years (except in extreme drought) we have some impact from tropical storms here in Central Texas. Dictionary or not.

20+ years in Austin and I agree!

Perhaps in the past five years, TS haven't been as common, but I'd say that 1-2 significant rain events due to tropical storms occur every 2-3 years.

We have been caught on the dry (west) side of several big storms (both Ike and Rita, if I remember right.) which just demonstrates that proximity to a storm itself doesn't guarantee rain.

If you asked a room full of native Austinites and long-time residents, I don't think that any of them would say that tropical storms are not common here.

Compared to numerous other states I have lived in (Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, California) Texas weather is "often" impacted by hurricanes and tropical depressions.

If I recall, it's been a number of years since a storm hit the Texas coast, and I've lived here 8 years and the only time we had rain from a Ts, it was just barely a sprinkle for maybe 20 minutes. The Texas Gulf Coast area gets plenty of rain from Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. Central Texas/Austin, not so much.

Compared to places that never get tropical events? Wow!

You have to remember T/s and Hurricanes have a tendency to make right turns , especially once they hit land. The chart the OP posted confirms this. So If you are hoping for drought relief from tropical activity, you should hope for a mid to south Texas costal crossing. Hoping that a hurricane hits Houston/Galveston(not saying you were), would be fruitless in most cases. Now for those of you who are hoping a Hurricane hits Houston/Galveston simply because you don't like this area, SHAME ON YOU ! But in the long run Hurricanes do what they want to do, so I suppose it really doesn't matter what people hope for, or why they are hoping, what they do.
