I work in Hays County, but my lease will end soon, and I'm hoping to find employment in Austin. I'm looking at South Austin/Travis County and maybe northern Hays County to put me close to my current job and any future employment. I plan on working with a real estate agent because I have a 60 lb dog who is mixed with bully breeds, and I'm hoping to find something with a backyard or fenced patio. My rent limit is $1,000.

With that being said, my past experience with an apartment locator is that they can't give you too much info about the safety of a neighborhood for legal reasons. Does anyone know of any zip codes or neighborhoods in South Austin that should be avoided? I'm not overly picky; I'm just looking for a place that doesn't have a high level of gang activity, burglaries, robberies, and auto thefts.

Thanks in advance.

It is all good. Property crime is common in Austin, lock your car, take valuables, but that's about it.
