The housing prices are pretty dang high if you're looking for a home below $300k and the feeding frenzy that occurs when a $250k home hits the market is pretty intense. She ended up moving to Georgetown. The distance doesn't matter because she doesn't go into Austin at all.

Well you can get a decent home in Cedar Park for $250k and if not there then in Leander. A bit further but hey, still in the metro area.

On paper you can get a home for that price, but try hitting the local market instead. welcome to frustration.
besides, the subject of that post was Pflugerville, not CP or Leander. you compared Pflugerville's housing prices with Steiner Ranch, which is just one subdivision. just because homes aren't over $350k doesn't make them cheap. Especially when you factor in taxes. people are being forced to look at Jarrell if they truly want an affordable house.

1. Austin, Texas
Metro Population: 1,942,615
Median Home Price: $278,608
Median Annual Salary: $50,830

For the second year in a row, Austin is the No. 1 Best Place to Live in the U.S.
Congratulations to us, I suppose. It's always good to come in first place in a nationwide competition.

I think a high-5 or a well deserved pat-on--the-back is very much in order.

+1 but I can't give it again

Yes, they/we need a sticker just like in school days. After all our self worth is tied to how our city ranks. Lord forbid we were in a low ranking city, our self esteem would be in the tank.

You're not catching onto the irony of the situation...

The stats are a wee bit off laddies.

Last 30 days, looking at Sold Homes ("Houses" not condos or frankenstein product) from the MLS where City=Austin, Avg Sold = $518K, Median Sold = $400K

Searching the same, where City<>Austin, the Avg Sold = $319K, Median Sold = $275K.

Median Days on Market to sell a home is 10 in Austin, 23 Days in Not Austin. More homes sell in Not Austin than in Real Austin.

And, if we zero in on the "Central" parts of Austin (being liberal with that definition) that people think are cool/hip and really want to live, the stats are:

Avg Sold = $697K, Median Sold = $567K, DOM = 9 Days

News articles, without using the word "fake", are often misleading or simply Not Right about the stats.Somebody give the author a raspberry.
