I just read they cancelled the Geneva Auto which was to run March 5 through 15. Depending on everything I forsee SXSW getting cancelled. Which is fine with me. Apparently the Amazing Race TV has suspended production as well. SXSW would have brung 400,000 people here over the two week run so it's just way risky.

Have any media types gone to the SXSW offices to actually ask the people in charge what they plan to do about it?

I was a bit concerned about this too, I'm glad they aren't just going to recklessly roll right through this.

Their website says nothing about cancellation.

As of 3 days ago it was a go. A few minutes ago on KXAN they said it was still a go as well. https://www.kxan.com/news/coronaviru...irus-outbreak/

Given the risk of "congregated" spread that this virus exploits, and how easily it spreads by air, one would think that cancellation at least being seriously considered. If not, plans to do something different that acknowledges the risk.

The SXSW "News" page is silent on the matter, which seems absurdly boneheaded and stupid.

My guess, attendees and exhibitors will start cancelling in mass forcing SXSW to consider cancelling.

This thing is serious.

5pm KXAN evening news said that "SXSW organizers expect SXSW to go on as planned".

Trump assures us the Corona virus, "Its going to disappear, one day it's like a miracle, it's going to disappear"! So nothing to worry about... idiot!

No it shouldnt be cancelled. The virus will spread throughout the country eventually, but at this point it is barely even here.

Two and a half months ago it was barely even in China. Do we want to hasten its spread here?

The virus is thought to have an animal origin. An epidemiological study of the first 72,314 cases released by the Chinese government suggested that there may have been a "continuous common source" of the outbreak in December 2019, which would imply that several animal to human zoonotic events occurred at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. According to this theory, the primary source of infection became human-to-human transmission in early January 2020.

I also agree it should be canceled. We definitely should not encourage it to spread.
