Moved with a job that I got summer of '08, but delayed my start. Wouldn't have gotten the job now, because they wouldn't be hiring.

Both my husband and I have jobs, however they are in Houston so we will telecommute and travel as necessary. We were within 5 yrs of retirement, hard to say in the current economy if that will happen as planned.
kittymamma - 10-4 on Alaska; we lived in Anchorage for 3 years working the Slope, too darn cold.

We will be moving as retirees. May get part time jobs, but not necessary, so nothing is really lined up. We need to be closer to family.

Actually, we are moving because of a job. I'm a SAHM, but my DH is self employed and about 90% of his clients are in Texas. With two little kiddos (and another on the way), the travel to and from PA has become too much for all of us. Austin is a nice, central location and with those cheap Southwest flights, he can meet his clients anywhere in Texas and be home for dinner. The only way the economy factors into our decision is the ability to sell our house here in PA. This is a big move for us, but we're hoping that it greatly increases our quality of life as a family, so we're looking at it as more of an adventure.

been here a year, but still a little 'Gruene" if you will... I was offered a job down here, but knew long before that I wanted to move here.

I had the cart already, but had the patience to wait for the horse.

My husband's company has a branch in Austin so he could easily transfer... For us it's all about the home prices. San Diego is insane, even with the downturn in home prices. It's basically 3x as much as Austin. You pay a premium for the weather (which we can't enjoy because we're working constantly to afford housing) and the beach (which is too crowded to enjoy because of all the tourists)

Planning to move to Austin or San An in the next 12 months. DH telecommutes so we don't need anything lined up.

My quick read, at least from the folks on CD, is that most relocatees that are coming here are either self-employed or have a position waiting for them...that's very good news, as the local job growth in Austin is currently skirting negative.........

my tally from the cross section of people so far suggests the following:

Job: 7
No Job: 2
Telecommute (job) 4
Retired (no job maybe): 1
Not sure: 2

Job: 11
No Job: 3

From my personal experience, for 75% of the people I know that are going to move to Austin, it's:

"I'm planning on moving to Austin, but I need to find a job"

just sayin.

people may want to move and be trying to find out how to get a job so they can make their desired transition. That doesn't mean most of them are actually going to make a move. Sometimes, they might change their mind after investigating.
