Sorry..I must have been thinking of South Padre. You are right.

Yeah..usually from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends are 2 night minimum and sometimes at a higher price than weekdays.

I did a week long trip down there one year Mon-Fri and went from Galveston to Port A to South Padre. Rates were cheap, got a room for 1-2 nights no problem and we got to scope out all the beaches. Port A was my favorite and the only one I ever go back for.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some in the General Texas Forum from RGV. He takes pictures all over.

Does anyone know the beach condition at Madagorda? We were there about 10 years ago and don't remember what the beach was like. But there were very fewer people there and hotels were much cheaper. OP, you may want to look into Madagorda if you don't plan to swim and surf a lot.

This looks like a ton of fun! Thanks for posting.

Do you mean Matagorda Island?

Google maps Matagorda Island

Matagorda Island is not accessible by car, it is isolated from the mainland and I don't believe it has any hotels or even regular ferry access.

Absolutely. We just went down to Rockport for the day last weekend (with a 15 month old). Out of Austin by 9:30, at the beach by 2, went to Charlotte Plummers at 5, on the road back at 6, home by 10.
