How far down 1431 will the bike lane go, woodinvilleguy? (& on what side of the road?)

Will it be a safe dedicated lane...or just a slim shoulder lane with F 150s whizzing by us 2 feet away at 68mph?

Not that it matters, but it's 1 mile to what?

1 mile from 1431 & parmer to the entrance of the water park.

The lane is suppose to be a dedicated walk/bike lane on 1431 from bagdad to at least parmer, I have to look at the Cedar Park master plan again.

Gotcha, that's good to know. Now we just have to hope that they put something similar on the Round Rock side of the park.

I'm sure this map is a year or two old. But the light green patch next to (just to the right of) the Suzuki dealership is where Sbahn will be built.

Not that it matters at this point, but you're wrong about the whole "but satellite images are old and it's all probably developed anyways" thing.

I'm looking at a sat image taken on November 25, 2009, and it looks exactly like your link. Looks pretty darn undeveloped. (Google recently updated their Austin area imagery.)

But like many said, development is probably going to happen with or without the park. It's just speeding up the inevitable, like having terminal cancer instead of just dying naturally.

(well that was a morbid analogy)

most of the development north of the water park is just beginning to be developed. Caballo ranch is due north as is the rock quary, williamson county regional park, and Austin hardwoods.

I have no idea if the google link i posted is 100% up to date, but I take your word that it is.

But we'll have to agree to disagree on a couple of items:

- The area (in my link) to me looks pretty darned developed. (in 3 of the 4 directions around the proposed water park) whether the pic was taken a year ago or 2 mos. ago.

- In other areas of town (Steiner, Canyon Creek, the area behind 3M...perhaps others areas) the google satellite maps haven't been updated.

- The type of development that will occur (businesses & recreational outlets etc.) is preferable to track home roof top development (imo). We agree that development on 1431 is probably inevitable....then it's the type of development that stakeholders should care about....& is in play.

The best type of suburban development is the one that doesn't occur. (third option). Regardless of where this is built, whether Burnet or La Grange, it will be visited the same number of times, all the same. But the location chosen by the developers (who have always had society's best interest at heart) will most likely add 100's of thousands of added car miles to Austin roadways and hundreds of extra tonnage of CO2 to our already hazy northern horizon each year. That daily brown cloud that hangs over northern Travis county and Williamson county is about to get worse.

It is a waterpark. It will be fun. I like everything about it except the placement - it will be a benefit to everyone. I just hope they have a comprehensive transportation plan in place, whether it's shuttles to the rail, a park-and-ride bus route, a veloway, or anything.

No. but it's still contaminated with high levels of flouride and chlorine. so at the lowest levels you won't have people swimming in it but you will have silverfish.

I think it's a great idea. Volente Beach is boring.
