Ponting should be dropped. We keep hearing how there's no up-and-coming talent but that's frankly BS.

Hussey is probably also getting to the twilight of his career.

I know, but an ex-captain.... and the best batsman I'll ever see... hmm I think he's gotta go out on his own terms...I wont be surprised if it is the Sydney test.

I haven't followed state cricket in a while, not sure who is up & coming but am sure there is something there....even those not from NSW

Shaun Marsh was doing well until he got injured. I think Khawaja has too much pressure to perform on his shoulders. He shouldn't be trying to fill the middle order because of the slack created by Ponting and Hussey. Then there's Ed Cowan, who is looking like a serious contender to get a test cap. Overall the talent pool is there it's just that, as it's always been, it's harder to get dropped than get selected into the Australian cricket team.

of course I know that! ha! I figure he won't retire in Melbourne.. maybe after the next two innings if he doesn't perform again will see the writing on the wall!

Hussey has lost it... Either one or the other should be making room for youth.Katich should be in this team, even though he use to bore me to tears ... Haven't minded what I saw from khawaja....
oh yes, this problem has been brewing, since the golden years....

Yeah the Selectors, particularly Andrew Hilditch, have made terrible blunders over the years.
This included Simon Katich, but also NSW seam bowler Stuart Clark.
They also crucified Michael Slater late in his career.
The selectors claimed they were looking for the future when they dropped Katich, and yet they keep Ponting going who has not scored a century in two years - work that one out.
Phillip Hughes should also go back to Sheffield Shield cricket for NSW to improve his technique.
Some very good players - such as Matthew Hayden and Damien Martyn - came into Australia at a young age before they were dropped.
They benefited from being dropped from Australia for a few years and refining their skills and temperament at state level.
Both came back as much better players and had stellar careers.

David Warner has been a revelation from the last test.
He surprised me, I did not think he could control himself at Test level, and was much more suited to One Day cricket and Twenty-20's.
In many ways he reminds me of the late David Hookes, the great SA player who could not cement his place in the Aussie team as he could not control his aggressive shot play at Test level.
Hookesy was awesome to watch at state level, and I had the privelge to watch him play ,against ironically NSW, at the Adelaide Oval in the late 80s, where he made a typical quick-fire 50 runs.

its all a bit too political at CA.
It didn't look good on Clarke either, considering the past between those two.
Hughes to be dropped for a while I think...
Was it Martyn who got the raw deal in the end..? dropped in england in middle of ashes?...he was a good batsman.

Really liked the way he went about it. Has made a good start, needs to back it up this coming test.
ahh Hookes, such a shame.. was a great cricketer. I use to like listening to him on AM in Melbourne ( ~ he had a show).. had really great sporting knowledge.

anther great aggressive batsman (and my Vic-ism ) is Dean Jones. LOooooved watching him bat.

Seems like Ponting's 100 might of just kept him going, just sneaked in there though, direct hit and it would of been a long walk back.
