The "Big Players" here are the AFL. The accidental premier tweaking rules for the benefit of big business while the poor citizens suffer. The man in this example presents no risk to his or the public health. Masses of AFL hangers on from Melbourne wandering the streets of the Gold Coast does, but one is good PR for the election and the other bloke doesn't vote here, so who cares.
A shame only partially an accidental PM. But you can't resist a barb at the QLD Premier, regardless of her actions. Not too dissimilar from attacks you have made on Arden.

As for AFL, WA would have loved to get the stage for that as well. It's termed, I believe a 'moral booster', and as such does come at a potential price. With care it should not prove too risky, but there is a risk without doubt.
Obviously a price considered worth a risk. Perhaps you think Victoria should have staged it?

And another one this afternoon. Very sad for these families. Heartless by the Queensland government. Some flexibility needs to be in this system, it's just madness that they are treating everything so black and white.

The NSW family of a 39-year-old man named Mark, who has recently been given a terminal cancer diagnosis, have been denied an exemption to travel to Queensland. Mark's four children, father and brother may never have the chance to say their goodbyes in person;
Make the family take a test before they board the flight and then again the day after they arrive. Ask them to self-isolate before they leave NSW. There are so many options on the table that will reduce the risk to virtually zero, but for some reason the Queensland government has chosen not to explore any of them.

All very sad, but something that has been the outcome in countless countries in Europe, and no doubt elsewhere.

My understanding is that the QLD government will relent in emergencies, as described above. That has been stated as such. My next question would be the source of the information. For example Sky news will latch onto a sentence said by someone in accord of their specific world view and headline it as 'news' not a comment.

Obviously the QLD government as any other, should be called to account for any breaches of own policy, resulting in heavy handedness and sanctions applied where applicable.

So what are the competing interests of the WA Chief Health Officer for recommending opening borders to SANT? Does he have some business interests driving him?

Oh I openly acknowledge the appalling job of the Qld Premier. If you want to term that a barb, so be it.

Now I have to assume you are trolling with the last paragraph. You have pretended only public health matters no matter how small the risk, but hosting the AFL GF as a "moral booster" (sic) is acceptable. You think 400 AFL people from Melbourne wandering the streets and lazing by the pool is a boost to local morale??

I don't care where the AFL holds their final, and I can assure you the vast majority of Qlders don't either. This fiasco has been a PR nightmare for them in Qld and will cost them any goodwill they were hoping to gain.

Is the ABC a better source for you?

Scomo will have to start exerting some more influence on the Qld Premier, as he has done with Andrews. The unnecessary tension between the States is something he needs to work harder to overcome.

The only thing that Scomo should be doing, is hanging his head in shame. The most authoritarian government in the Western World and beyond.
But don't let the wider angle interfere with in any way, which it obviously won't with the continued parochialism of critiquing the local scene of public health shut downs.

Well Scomo is having some luck with Andrews who is finally checking out how to do contact tracing. The public shaming is having the desired result.

Did you hear troubes that the Vic lock down planning was predicated on no improvement in contact tracing. Just another embarrassment heaped on the last embarrassment.

Yeah, he is doing a great job.

Only the Police are happy with him as he gave them less work to do and lied to the public about the reason why.

WA border restrictions are making more sense now......

Parochialism, of course.

Of course WA is parochial. What point are you attempting to make? It's still after all Australia and the most isolated state in it.

Good to see though Big Mining doesn't call all the shots. Although as usual Real Estate maintain way over influence in policy and goes towards explaining the business pitch over recent weeks.

Impossible to escape vested interests generally in policy making in Australia. All the more reason to offer guarded support to those states rallying against that trend with public health interests paramount.
