I came across the crash on YouTube. In the slow motion replay I was able to see, it looks like the roof was t-boned and the roll cage above the driver was definitely compromised. Hoping that Newman is okay, but definitely reason to be concerned.
Twitter showing black screens being put up around the car, and said media ordered to leave pit row. (Probably right after it happened) Fox told to stop recording/broadcasting.
End of broadcast Mike Joy said he had been removed from the car.

No question the roll cage was at least partially collapsed down right at the drivers seat.
The wall hit, while violent, was 'as expected'. The wall performed as it should.. Deflected the hit and sent him back down the track.. unfortunately.. Right into the path of Corey Lajoie. Corey had nothing he could do.
I suspect we're looking at left side injuries mainly. Probably lower extremities on the right side. Head and chest injury is a concern.. I'm less concerned about neck injuries because Newman... doesn't really have a neck. I mean, look at the guy.. It's head to shoulders.
Was glad to hear he survived that crash. Maybe we will get more details in the next few days of his condition. I suspect he wont be back this season, unless its late this season. (Although KB came back sooner than I expected him to.)
So relieved to hear that Newman's injuries are non life threatening. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and is back on the track soon. And congrats to JGR and Denny Hamlin on his 3rd (2nd in a row) Daytona 500 victory.
