Should we take any stock in the recent rumors that Hendrick will downsize to 3 teams next year?
Bowman to #48 and the #88 in mothballs for now?
Financially it may make sense due to what is going on in the world right now.
But I feel that Hendrick needs a solid veteran driver...like Brad Keselowski to come over and keep that team on track.
Brad would be a good fit at HMS now that he has matured quite a bit. Plus his driving is still really good.
I can see Brad taking over the #88, with Bowman being the long term choice due to his age in the #48.
With Ally staying with the 48, and the 88 loosing sponsorship, thats probably what will happen. As mentioned Brad is staying for at least 1 more year with Penske.
Leavine Family Racing will cease operations at the end of the year. They've sold their assets to an undisclosed bidder, most likely Spire Motorsports. My money is on Christopher Bell taking over the 20 and Erik Jones being out of a ride.
Michigan doubleheader coming up this weekend with a Road America Xfinity race to boot. Good weekend of racing coming up. What are your guys opinion on the doubleheader weekends? I actually like it, but wish the races were on earlier in the afternoon instead of later.

Half of this is official. Erik Jones is out of a ride. JGR announced today they're not renewing his contract.

Not sure if I agree with this. 7 time champ Jimmy Johnson, 44, is the most experienced by far on the NASCAR circuit, but hasn't smelled victory lane in a couple years now (0-93 wins). He's arguably in the best equipment out there.
Matt Kenseth, a former champ, has no wins this year. He's situation though is unique, having come back after after retirement to fill in. The 42 had better average finishes with a younger driver, before Matt took over.
Both Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart faded at the end of their careers.
The hot drivers are the early "middle aged" drivers. Kyle Busch, Hamlin, Keselowski, etc... all who are in mid to upper 30's. These guys offer the most competitive racing as of late.
The standout out is Kevin Harvick, the same age as Jimmy Johnson. Harvick seems to be getting better with age (44).

This is the common trajectory.
I mean, you will find VERY few drivers who are better at the end of their careers. 45-ish is generally the drop-off point, though some it hits earlier than that.
Harry Gant being the big exception. Even Mark Martin didn't do very well after hitting 45. Take out his 5 wins in 2009 and he was quite average.
