I would just try and find a lower mileage civic maybe save up 4K-$4500 and then there are tons of well maintained low mileage civic's in that price range

I'd buy an older Cavalier/Sunfire before I would buy a Neon.

Here's my experience so far: I haven't had a single problem in 170k with my Toyota. I just bought a new Dodge Challenger and have driven it for 1k miles and the check engine light is on, I have problems with the transmission..etc..my husband really wanted this stupid car but it is a piece of garbage in my opinion. Just stay away from the Dodge!!

I personally would take the Civic. We have had Honda's in our family since the 70's and usually 300k or more out of them with no major repairs. 160k is nothing for a Civic. My friends 97 has 270k and zero repairs, driving in hard winters, except for a muffler, brake pads.
I know nothing about Neons so I can not comment.

$37,000 because any Honda never goes below $3,000 no matter what the mileage or wear and tear is.

Sorry you had such bad luck with your Dodge but to tell you the truth, if I won one, I would trade it in quickly for either a Toyota, Subbie, or Nissan.
Chrysler sucks and always has.
