Didn't you know Richard Petty dominated NASCAR with a Honda? How about Bill Goldberg? I double dog dare them to tell him to his face that his Mopar collection sucks! I'll bring the popcorn! LMAO

That's right. He drove a Honda Civic with a 70-horsepower engine.

Even better than Petty when it comes to Neon cred is "Maximum" Bob Lutz who used to race a Neon in the SCCA and was quite competitive. In fact, Neon's dominated the SCCA FWD class for a long time. Doesn't mean it's a better bread and butter commuter than a Civic, it just means they aren't the POS's some take them for.

those were the R/T models neons
I remember the fit and finish on the neon was terrible the cheap platic interior cheap seats and the dash would crack and the little auto 3-speed tranny was one of the worst tranmission dodge has ever made followed but the later 4-speed auto. If the neaon is stick shift then it would be a decent buy but then again a stick shift honda would be a great value and blast to drive.

Again, I need to "speak up" for my beater, LOL. It's a 162k mi (125mi a day as a DD) as the original owners. We've maintained the car and have had nothing but normal maintenance issues. I have always thought it need a 4th gear, but it's got a little pep when you need it. It's 2-0 vs deer, so it holds up well. For what these cars were intended for, I have zero complaints. Never thought we'd have this car (almost) 10 yrs after my (then) Fiance brought it home. It never gave me a reason to dump it. Once a few dealers laughed at it for a trade in over the years, I decided to keep it until it gave me a reason...
