Lately I've been mulling around trading my 2005 Corvette 'Vert off for something new, I'm completely undecided on what exactly that is though! Sports car enthusiasts, CHIME IN!
I love my 'Vette, don't get me wrong. I bought it used and it's valued within $5K-$7K of what I paid for it many years back. Whatever I buy, it'll also likely be used. I'm not sure if I want to go with something loud and attention getting such as a 2010-2011 YELLOW Camaro SS with black racing stripes or more subdued and luxurious as in 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. I'm all over the board right now with ideas but I want to spend UNDER $50K and I'm debating whether or not I want a performance sedan, coupe, or convertible. Decisions, decisions...
Best bang for the buck is the 2011 Mustang GT. 400HP for around 30K or the Boss 302 for around 36K.
Much better driving cars than the new camaro. A couple of year old Vette is also hard to beat. Saw a 2009 Z06 a couple of weeks back for 50K and used standard model Vettes are in the low 40's. Not my kind of cars but it's hard to beat the performance for the price.
This question is about on par with asking for choices of a spouse ... it's really all about one's personal preferences and what brings you satisfaction. Hence, very difficult to impose anybody else's idea of what's "bang for the buck" ....
In my case, I'm happy to drive old BMW 2002's that have the standard bodywork and a bit of interior upgrades ... but under the hood resides a lot more HP than original, and very heavily modified suspension/brakes ... well, you get the idea. The cars are sleepers, don't attract undue attention, and can deliver a lot of fun. Not on par with a 'vette with a lot more HP, but it's a very satisfying mountain road car and they don't cost a lot of money to buy/modify or run.
Other cars in my fleet include AlfaRomeo's ... same deal. These cars are relatively inexpensive to turn into toy racers, and again ... don't attract undue attention.
IMO, there's a lot of "bang for the buck" to be had with these types of cars. You can probably find others that appeal to you for style, handling, performance ... ranging from worked over domestic cars with a crate motor 500HP on tap to obvious muscle cars to a host of exotics, so buy what you like.
when it comes to sports cars with "bang for the buck" you really cant do better than your current vette. unless you have a good reason to get rid of the car, i say keep what you have, and buy a cheap sedan for daily driving.

Input? Ideas? Anyone want to buy an '05 Vette?
Do yourself a favor and check out some used C6 Z06's. They might push the price ceiling a bit but the car is just a dream to drive whether on a long road trip or just out to get groceries. Gorgeous looks, great performance....and not just in a straight line.
The Mustangs are a great great buy as well but they are a different animal than the Z06.
You need to figure out what you really want. You said this...

Those are all different things and then there is "bang for the buck" in terms of going fast and then there is "bang for the buck" in terms of fun to drive, but not necessarily fast.
Just knowing what you have said in other threads, I would suggest the used CTS-V. You've wanted one for awhile and if it's withing your grasp I would get one. Besides it will look pretty sweet in the driveway next to your fiancee's Escalade.
