People need to remember that being safe on your bike is important not only to you but also any other road users. Buying accessories for your bicycle should not be expensive and there are plenty of cheap bike lights and other pieces of equipment to help.

In some cities, it's the law. Driving home from work on night, I came across three college students on bicycles. I stopped and complimented one of the three for the quality of his lights. His rear light were red flashing LEDs. His front light was bright and easy for me to see him. The other two had. No lights.

I'm the "nerd" who has a small, but noticeable headlight and a tail light on my top-end road/racing bike. It's all about making it easier for cars to see me and NOT hit me. I also do not like dark jerseys either-harder to be seen. I am surprised at how few cyclist in the local cycling club do the same.
