Ford Escape (soon to be assembled in Kentucky) is the big gainer, it was ranked 4th in total sales in November, trailing only the Ford F 150, Chevy Silvarado, & Toyota Camry
I think alot of that was because of the Tsunami earlier this year. Still cannot believe people are buying the escape, a vehicle that hasn't had a major redesign since it came out and according to all reviews it falls way behind most other vehicles its size. There are so many better small suv's out there.

Some are attracted to it's simplicity and "truckiness". And who cares what reviewers say? Evidently not many.

Blaiming the tsunami? These models are still availible in on the lots. My work is heavily reliant on major Japanese manufactured parts and the tsunami never made a ding in our production rate. In fact we are damping up on schedule.
1st the escape is a decent vehicle. Screw reviews, I will read them and take them into account, but when it comes to choosing I usually disagree with their results.
For the love of god "reviewers" now say Hyundai is a good reliable brand. They might be, but what proof? They have all new redesigned stuff not really based off a history of vehicles., their old stuff was junk. Yet they say its reliable, based on the low mileage that new owners have accrued. Or is it the number of ads in their magazine?
The escape is a solid vehicle, its size is very useful, not too big, not to small, good power, good mpg, good cargo, not overpriced.
Only complaint I have, the radio takes some getting used to. Is love to buy one for the wife's next vehicle.
My brother and mother both have escapes and they're fun little cars to drive, the v6 gives it just the right amount of torque steer, I like ripping around in them
I think most car reviewers are ex journalism students who just happened to get jobs writing about cars. Had they landed jobs for fishing magazines then they would'a been "experts" on bass lures.
Reviewers often like to be tastemakers and fashion setters and rather than be strict outsiders reporting on an industry seek to be insiders. This leads to all kinds of nonsense including cooption and corruption.

There are definitely some, though not, all of those out there. Also some have built in prejudices and tend not to be sufficiently objective. (kinda holds true for journalism in general) There seem to be ebbs and flows of who to bash. Some Honda models are there now. Are they really that bad?
There is no sales slide among the imports. It's just convenient timing and creative use of the statistics.
I work with dealers on a daily basis. One major Honda store here that normally has 650 plus new cars in stock went 4 months this year where they only received 20% of their normal stock. At one point they had 3 Accords and no Civics. No wonder sales are down. Toyota also had shortages in a number of their cars...
Basing ANY sort of opinion on the 2011 sales of the imports is impossible.

All of the cars mentioned in the OPs post are in the top 20... and the Escape is hardly whipping them by much. Ford was practically giving the Escape away this year. It is the last year for production before a completely new model hits next year. Nissan is also doing the same with the Altima to boost sales numbers.
The reviews for the brand new Civic have been devastating for what had been the gold standard of compacts in this country since 1980.
According to a recent article in Automobile News, Honda is giving serious consideration to redoing the Civic again in 2014, since the Elantra & Focus have eclipsed it as the new gold standards in the compact category.
Recent flooding in Thailand has delivered another blow to Honda, since that's where they get most of their chips and other electrical-related parts.
