I checked around and most owners average 13-15mpg in mixed driving. Most large truck/SUV owners love to talk about highway fuel economy (and are mum about around town MPG) but it's pretty much irrelevant unless you drive exclusively on the freeway.

2011 Yukon 5.3L V8 4x4: 15mpg city
2011 RAV4 4cyl 4x4: 21mpg city
Drive 15,000 miles a year, gas $3.20 a gallon.
Yukon: 1000 gallons = $3,200 fuel for year
RAV4: 714 gallons = $2,285 fuel for year
For people that can afford a 2008+ Yukon, the extra $1,000 in fuel costs aren't going to make them lose sleep at night. If you need a vehicle that can haul people and stuff, it will cost you.
I love how people really do the math on what fuel really costs a month, and how its not that big of a deal.

15 gallon tank, filling up 1 a week, is $3.75 a week, or $15 a month.
This car gets 5 mpg more then this car.
15 gallon tank, filling up once a week
-15 mpg vehicle... 225 miles a week, 900 a month
-20 mph vehicle... 300 miles a week, 1200 a month
-25 mpg vehicle( I highly doubt an 3rd row seat vehicle will get this)... 375 miles a week, 1500 miles a month.
Or another way, if you drive 1000 miles a month. And gas is $3.25
15 mpg vehicle, will use 66.6 gallons. $216 a month
20 mpg vehicle, will use 50 gallons. $162 a month
25 mpg vehicle, will use 40 gallons. $130 a month.
So $80 difference from best to worst. More like $30-50 difference, because a 25mpg 3 passenger Suv, for average fuel mileage really don't exist.
$30-50, that is skipping eating out one night in the month. And if that makes or breaks your budget, you shouldn't own a car with a car payment, and reliability wise, you probably want a full size truck based SUV, like a Tahoe.
OK guys we finally got a vehicle. The wife agreed to go to a two row crossover so we started looking that route. We narrowed it down to a Q5, Edge Limited, XC60 ( her choice) , X3, and a Grand Cherokee. We ended up with the Edge Limited Ecoboost. I was a little hesitant because people were having problems with MFT but so far everything is good and she loves it.
We chose the Edge because it just about everything the more expensive option has and the Ecoboost is supposed to get 30 mpg highway.
Congratulations on the purchase. I know a couple of people with the Edge and they like them very much, and neither has complained about any major problems -- including one who has to drive about ~35-40 miles each way to/from her office.

Need 3 rows, get a mini van. I have been shopping for a new ride for the family only because my wife thinks she wants a new car. If you have people that need to get into the 3rd seat daily, much easier in a mini van than an SUV. Try it yourself, you will see what I mean. Also more room in the vehicle for everyone in a minivan. Better MPG than a full size SUV.
I never understood the attraction of a big SUV unless you drive in the woods or pull a big boat??
