My friend has a Yugo with 675K on it. I think he had to replace the radiator though.

I don't even think that is possible. It is probably more like 675 cm.

Another point is that all miles are not created equal - I drive about 42 miles one way to work, on "blue" roads mostly in 5th gear going 40 to 60. This is very easy service for a car, I can get 300K out of almost anything.

The older Detroit cars have higher tension rings, and softer metal in the block, so by the time they get out past 200K they are using some oil, but can still be a very usable car. A quart of oil even every tank of gas does not raise your per-mile costs that much, do the math.

Many German and Japanese cars from the 80's on have high-nickel blocks, low tension rings, and will last a long time if you keep good clean oil in them - the air filter and oil filter are about as important as the oil.

I have driven the old Scirocco almost 200K myself, while I have had to do 2 head gasket jobs, that's typical of any aluminum head/iron block engine. Have had to pull the head once on the Toy, same deal, although the car came to me with an improperly installed head and gasket (idiot worked on it some time back, hard to say if it was a shop or DIY - whatever - they did it wrong.)

I think most full size cars can go to 300K miles if they are treated right. I'd also imagine stuff like the Suburbans, Expeditions, and the full size vans doing that easy.

I had an '81 Chevy Citation that was beat up and ugly, but was at 323k miles when I finally gave it away. No major problems ever.

Actually 300K Panthers are pretty common. I had a '95 Crown Vic that was pretty close but I sold it to a demolition derby guy when the starter went out because I was ready for something different.

No, was just a long distance traveller that went around a few times. My dad originally used it for copier repair, where he had to be on the road all over western Washington state and Oregon. So it saw a LOT of miles. I got it from him at 285k miles.
