So rednecks have good taste in cars they just can't afford to fix them up or "pimp" them out.

Don't do anything to "pimp" it. Don't do anything that someone who has anything to do with pimp might do. Pimp suggests changing only the appearance of a car, often to the detriment of it's performance, and generally to the point that only a small demographic appreciates it. Unless you're one of them, don't pimp it. Pimp is about attracting attention for superficial reasons.

Wider tires. Nicer wheels. A tasteful sound system designed to sound good in the car, not 50 yards away. Performance mods such as improving the suspension, more power, better brakes, etc. Fix everything that doesn't work right.

Hope that helps.

This is my idea of what is cool as a Firebird, in it's day. It says I want a "pony car," without tackiness and gaudiness.

This is tacky, after age 25. Hated the grille on these "Smokey and the Bandit" T/As.

The first one screams "I'm packin' a 250 inline 6!"

Can't say that I'm too fond of either of them but if I had to choose I'd pick the second one and remove the decal. The proportions on the older one are pretty awful and the front end is none too pleasing either.

Haha. That WAS the base engine, in both that and the Camaro. However, being cast iron through and through, and with a seven main bearing crankshaft, they were indestructible. Not to mention all the space in the engine compartment and that every spark plug was easily accessible.

In the Pontiac, the next step was the 350 V8. In the Chevrolet, the next step was the 305 V8, with a 350 V8 also available.

Rockford drove an Esprit, IIRC, on that TV-show. I'm sure it was V8 equipped (two tailpipes, to differentiate), but I always liked the grille and taillamp combination on his model the best.

It is the exact same chassis and body shell, actually. From 1974 through 1981, the ONLY external changes were the grilles and, of course, the presence of spoilers, air scoops, and side scoops which went with the trim level of the car (base, Esprit, Formula, T/A). Even the taillamps remained unchanged through all those years.

It must be the front end treatment that makes the biggest difference.

Bob.
Nice car man!
My friend has 79 fully restored.
It never leaves the garage except for car shows

The custom wheels sure do make a statement.

Bob.
Loved that rim package with that car

The honeycomb rims were a great fit for that car.
Sadly a lot of them were getting stolen off of the firebirds in the late 70's early 80's and ending up on low-riders

this is what I was referring to as "pimping it out". LOL. Not put some ricer stuff or a racing stripe.

I just want a nice shiny new paint job to give it a new car gloss, better rims and wheels and yes a good sound system.

what about new lights? brighters, lighter? No?
