I can't own all the cars I like at once, so i own them sequentially. And I started out below the poverty line, so they started out as fun cheap cars. But, even though there have been a number of cars I've owned that have stuck around 3-5 years each, I've had 120+ cars in the last 37 years, so you can do the math. A lot of them were project cars wher I had an idea dn followed through on it, only to sell it when done to finance the next project or two, and at times there were up to 7-10 cars in my fleet at once.

I only have 5 now, but two of them are leased, so they'll be replaced in a couple years.

I married my best girl and will be with her till I die. But cars? I love them, but I'm not married to them.

'98 Acura CL, 278,000. I hope to keep it as long as possible, but my immediate goal is to get to 300,000 miles. I really don't want to have to get a new car, my baby is like Archie Bunker's chair, it fits my butt perfectly.

2010 Bentley Continental GT 'Speed' ~ My wifes car, she's had it for 6 months and she'll probably keep it another couple of years. (used daily).
2003 Land Rover Defender 90 ~ Had it for 3 years, may change it for a 110 at some point but probably keep it until it dies. (used daily).
1995 Aston Martin Vantage ~ Owned for 4 years and intend to keep it forever. (used 3/4 times a week).
______________________

1975 Triumph TR6 (will be used in the summer, just finished renovation).
1972 Citroen DS 23 'Pallas' (used twice a week).
1971 Mini Cooper S (used twice a week).

These 3 have been bought in the last year and intend to keep them for at least another few years as they're practical and useable classics.

1995 Camaro Z28, 110,000 miles - I will either give it to my son next year or sell it. It is just too small and uncomfortable for me at my age. Plus it is impractical to drive other people around, except one person, and if they are older, or fat, they cannot get in and out of it very well.

2006 Chevy Express Conversion Van 110,000 miles. We will drive it until it dies. Probably another 4-5 years/100,000 miles if it makes it that long.

I am currently looking for a 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP. Most of the ones I am looking at have 20,000 miles or less. I will probably keep it 15 years or so, maybe longer.

1973 Jensen Healey actual mileage unknown. This is a toy. I will probably keep it as long as I am able to drive. We will mostly use it for date night (or day) trips in summer, parades and car shows. If it dies and I cannot fix it, I will get another one. Rebuilding engines and replacing transmissions are just regular maintenance with these. I am not sure what could happen I could not repair, maybe an accident. But if I was in an accident bad enough to total the car, I woudl probably be dead. They are not all that safe.

2003 Ford Ranger 170,000 miles. This is a spare for when something else is broken, or when we need to haul something, or for winter driving. I will replace it with a 4x4 truck in the next two years. We like having a truck, but I wanted a 4x4. If it is still running, we will sell this one to help pay for a 4x4. Possibly Avalanche, RAM, F-150, Silverado, or another Ranger in that order.

The cars we have for the kids range from 1992 - 2003. Mileage ranges from 150,000 - 240,000 miles. We will keep them until the kids move out and take them away, the car dies, or the kids buy a replacement car - in which case we will probably allow them to sell the old car to help pay for a new one. Four of these cars are "owned" by our kids, but they are registered to me and we pay for insurance, some maintenance and major repairs (and sometimes gasoline). My son has two, and he is trying to sell one of them to help pay for a super expensive rowing camp this summer.

I bought a 2002 Celica GTS and it was the first new car I ever owned. It only has 46K miles and still looks new, except for the rims. I love the car and plan on having it for many more years.

Until it drops. The only way you can ever make money on a car is to run the wheels off of it.

And repair bills are usually a lot cheaper than a car payment.

If I planned to get rid of a car after a certain point, I don't think I'd own it in the first place. I only buy cars I will love, and they only time I've gotten rid of them is if something I love more comes along.

1993 Chevy Suburban

Bought it right off the car transport when it arrived at the dealer in 1993. Plan was to keep it for no less than 20 years which I have now done. New plan is to keep on keeping it for many more years since it's still a baby as Suburban's go with 133,000mi. With Suburban's lasting on average 300,000 mi I'm still good for awhile yet.
