MG Midget

My father always told me when I turned 16 he would buy me a car- but he had the say in what it was. I always wanted a Jeep but he had other plans for it. I protested and got my mom to stand behind me on his choices of a VW Karmann Ghia, VW Thing, an old mail Jeep, a Scout, and a dune buggy (I'm hoping he had too much beer when he showed me that last one). Finally we found the MG Midget and it worked for me. Worked for me for about six months until I blew the engine up by not adding oil (who knew?). A 16 year old does not know a thing about old British sports cars, let me tell you. My dad got it fixed, everything had to be imported and found in old compounds, and it took months and cost as much as he paid for the car. I was never allowed to drive it again after it came home. The engine blowup was also coupled by the time he caught me going to the beach with six friends in the car (seat belt laws did not exist in 1986). Apparently, come to find out, he thought that by buying me a small two seater would prevent me from having more than that in my car. He sold it and bought me a white Isuzu "pup" pickup stick shift. With an AM. My dad must of really hated me after all of that.

BTW, My dad now takes full credit for not teaching me about oil or just taking care of the car himself. He says he should have just bought me the "$#% %@$# Jeep".

My first car was the first Mustang sold in the state of Idaho. My dad decided I needed a car, and after looking around at some used cars, he decided to call his old friend, who owned a Ford dealership. The Mustang cost my dad $500 cash, and 2 good Appaloosa mares, one with a colt by her side. I popped the $100 for the AM radio.

Because advance orders were flooding in for them, every dealer in Idaho got only one car, and they were all white, with a 3-speed manual and the straight 6 engine. Only the interior colors differed. Dad had to agree not to pick the car up for a month so the dealership could have one to show off.

I drove it for 2 years before I enlisted, then my younger brother got it, then my younger sister got it. We all drove the wheels off it before a ranch hand eventually bought it, and it ended up catching on fire on top of a mountain. It was a wonderful little car! I was going to college then, and it got more attention than a buddy's Corvette.

That's the way it was in Idaho back in the early 60's. The horses were a readily acceptable trade item for a car back then. I doubt even my old man, who was a master horse trader, could pull it off these days.

1985 Pontiac Trans Am, I went with my parents to an auction an bought it for $1600. It was a 5spd and I taught myself how to drive it. I kept it for about 6 months, cleaned it up, and sold it for around $2500.

My first car was a 1966 Dodge Dart GT V-8. Bought as a High School Graduation present. It only cost $50 because it was scheduled to be donated to an auto shop class.

My parents knew I liked Mopars so I was thrilled to not only have a Dart, but a V-8 Dart. It could burn rubber and that's what mattered to me! It had the 273-2 bbl engine, Torqueflite automatic transmission, bucket seats and console. I owned it for over 20 years. Did some mods... 4-bbl Carter AFB 500 cfm carburetor, Holley aluminum intake manifold, dual exhaust, B&M shift kit, electronic ignition and 3.23 gears replacing the 2.93s. After the mods, it could run 40-60 mph in 4 seconds and 50-70 mph in 4.8 seconds. Not bad for a small, mildly-tuned V-8. (It had a very mild factory cam.)

My first car was in 2000, and it was a 4 door, maroon, 1989 Plymouth Sundance LMAO! My mom loaned me a 1000 bucks because it was costing me a fortune taking cabs to work and back. I paid that back in like 6 months or something.

I actually liked that car, but it got t-boned.

Next up was a 4 door, black, 1992 Ford Tempo GL, with a 3.0 V6 and a 5-speed. For what it was, that thing was a little rocket. I never lost a "race" within my class of vehicles. Even my buddy's 1995 Crown Vic ex Interceptor could NOT get past my B-pillar. It sure was nice listening to the big ol' V8 screamin' thru the gears right next to my head though.

Still miss that thing, but the right rear shock started punching thru the trunk lol

Then I had a 1995 Cutlass Supreme. It would have been great if the idiot before me didn't treat it like a Ferarri. Guy even painted it Ferarri Red with Yellow grill and brake calipers. lol

Don't miss it!

When that things electrical system was finally going berserk in 2007, I saw an add in the paper......

That's when I got my 2008 Dark Titanium Charger. Great car, always started, too effing expensive.

Then I got my current and most favorite vehicle of them all, my 1991 4.0, 5-speed, Jeep YJ Wrangler. It stinks, it's noisey, it rattles, it squeaks, it leaks, it's windshield is cracked, it's got a hole in the floor, it's got the same suspension as a covered wagon....

AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!

My first was a 61 VW BUG which I paid for, my second was a variety of olive drab vehicles that Uncle Sam paid for. The bug was much nicer.
