My taste has slighty changed. I used to want and SUV (Navigator, Escalade, Range Rover) and now I want a Crossover (MKX, Tribeca, Edge)
Its not so much what we want , but what we can afford these days. There was a time when our Grand parents paid cash for their new car. Those days may come again , and , that will dictate what car we are in love with at the moment.
Would we actually own our people's car or just use it for the day and pass it on? Kind of like a cab you drive yourself? Or like the Seattle yellow bicycle project? Or a grocery cart?

I've always heard these programs referred to as yellow bicycle programs (as mentioned in the wiki article). I was curious as to whether darstar sees the people's car being similar to a yellow bicycle program or whether we'd buy and own them.

The way I see it , you would own the car. By peoples car , I refer to one thats affordable, easy on the environment , can be made by any maker , but must conform to specific regulations as to same engine and drive train. Some styling changes could be allowed as long as the price stays the same. In order to keep them fresh and under warranty there would be an annual " use tax" that got higher each year until at 6 or 7 years , you could no longer afford the car. You pay to play , so to speak. the trade in value would be fixed , to a fee that was shared by all for recycling. The peoples car would only compete for sales with like kind. Each auto company , would be required to allot a percentage of their sales to these vehicles. Insurance rates would be very affordable. You would be responsible for maintenance , and any repairs , however , repair rates would be fixed. If something major broke , your cost would never exceed the cars value , and or , your cost to operate it for one year. ( this would be after the warranty expired .) All costs to own and drive this car, and its value, would never exceed your investment. You could never get " upside down " when selling it , or replacing it.
This people's car sounds like some type of socialist agenda. I sure don't want the government telling me what to like or drive. Wasn't the volkswagon supposed to be the people's car. I think Adolph Hitler used that term.
it has, but my dreamcar hasnt, before i die im going to buy me a new corvette
