Yeah those AMG Mercedes V8s are thunderous. A buddy of mine has an '14 SLK AMG with the 5.5 and loves to trigger car alarms in an underpass by blipping the throttle haha.

You always know it's him when you hear that roar in the neighborhood.

Love the sound of a V8 rumble, my 5.0 with flowmaster axle back sounds awesome.

The Subaru boxer motors sound great, even the fart can muffler ones!

I'd have to say Subaru's boxer engine, and Nissans 3.7L are the two best sounding non-V8 engines I know of.

Everything else should be silent...or have that nice V8 growl.

ANd yes, sound is a bonus to me. Nothing feels better than rolling through the gears with a healthy, V8 exhaust note behind you.

I put a Stillen gen 2 cat back exhaust on my G35x sedan when I owned it. It set me back around $1200 at the time. I was hoping to get the nice, throaty sound like the G coupe or 350z makes. It turned out to be one of the biggest blunders I ever made, automotive-wise. To me, it sounded like a 2.8 V6 Chevy Citation with a large hole in the muffler. I drove it for as long as I could stand it then traded it in rather than spend the money to go back to stock. I was ready to get rid of it anyway having purchased it new and owned it for over 7 years.

Live and learn! Never again, I'm stock exhaust guy from now on.

Also, keep in mind that MANY new cars, especially ones with CVT transmissions, play an audio track inside the car to make it sound like its shifting or to make it sound like its a bit more guttural and robust than it really is.

It's cornball having fake engine noise. Car's like the M3 didn't need such nonsense back with they came with the unmistakable roar of a real V8 engine.

I love good engine noise, whether a 6.2 Mercedes or a C15 Cat diesel with straight stacks. That's my one hangup with all the newer high tech stuff. They sound like nothing much. I guess the good sounding stuff will be become more and more of a special treat and for old times sake.

If it doesn't backfire and passes emission, it's all good.

Same here... currently have a 5.0 with Roush Axle Backs, you can hear it coming seemingly a mile away. The sound from the engine and exhaust are intoxicating.
