Yeah, I know people who have been. Friend of mine was traveling with $5k cash to buy a car, got stopped for speeding.. cop decided it was for something criminal, and confiscated it.
Don't know what the end result of that story was, as we've been out of touch with each other for some time.
I just love how this **** suddenly becomes and issue now that the same people who derided anyone who brought it up ten years ago are suddenly catching on.
I read about it the other day. Hard to believe it's real. How does a law like this get passed?
Basically if you have significant amounts of cash in your car, the cops can just steal it with out any justification other than their suspicion. No court case, or arrest etc.
Then they can spend *your* money however they please - Margarita machine of the office etc.
That's a good idea for people who text while driving, confiscate their car!
Everyone write your state legislators to get this written into law.
You know what will happen then, don't you? They will claim that you were texting while driving when you don't even have a charged phone in your pocket. If innocent people can be threatened with having their children taken away from them if they don't hand over their cash, then corrupt law enforcement will claim you were on your phone when there was no reason for you to be doing so.

That frustrates me as much as the misdeeds themselves. If the average American took a break from all the meaningless nonsense used to fill time in their lives and started really evaluating the world they live in, they would be astounded. These laws and abusive authoritative behavior creep into existence because average Americans don't pay attention to it. Everyone needs a reality check. I sent this link along to friends and family, thanks.
I am very pro police but what I saw on John Oliver about Civil Forfeiture Laws was unbelievably. If true its disgusting.
I'm surprised the ACLU has not gone after this.
Don't take a journalist' word for it, from dash cams to smartphones go to youtube and watch the countless videos of victims like these being harassed by people meant to protect and serve.
