I love reading these lists. I wonder how many people have owned and kept their bottom 3, not their uncle who had a lemon of a dodge in 1978, or the base model stripped down toyota taxi they rode in last month. Or how many have been in a major accident in a toyota yaris (supposedly dependable and safe) vs in a dodge charger (supposedly oversized and unreliable)?
Bottom 3:
1. GM - shoddy quality, they ruined Saab and Pontiac which I felt had promising futures
2. Kia - while I respect how much they've improved lately, they still have a ways to go to match HonToy
3. Hyundai - ditto
I'm surprised you put Hyundai on that list. Even though Hyundai owns Kia, I have a feeling you don't really know about the quality of a Hyundai. I just don't think it belongs on that list. I've been in a few Kias, and definitely was not impressed, far from impressed with any of the designs. There were way too many things I didn't like. But I've had a Hyundai, and just bought a new one last week. The option packages were impressive, and Elantra, sure looks just as nice as any of the higher priced cars I've seen, if not better than many. No doubt it's up to par.
Based on my experience and that of friends/relatives,
Three favorites:
Ford
BMW
Subaru
Least:
Toyota
Chrysler (worst)
Volkswagen
Have to second your faves list since I have one of each at the moment! As for the "least" list, I'm down with those for the most part as well. Would probably substitute GM for Chrysler there, if only because I can't trust them after the ignition switch fiasco.
It would be nice if that was 100% true, but perceived image is a big part of why many people buy or don't buy. Through great sports car, I would guess some guys in the market would not consider a Miata - - or maybe a better example: a new VW bug......
