The national 55 mph speed limit was signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1974, and even that wasn't as low as he preferred - he initially proposed a limit of 50 mph for passenger cars (trucks and buses would be allowed to go 55 mph) but the bill Congress sent to his desk made the limit uniform for all vehicles.
If you must partisanize everything, at least make it so it has some sort of factual basis.

Umm, not really. Europe gets some of the most powerful and fastest models of vehicles sold here. Japan has a history of keeping their fastest powertrains for themselves never to arrive in USA.
My uncles S5 has a speedometer that goes to 200 but I think it's limited at 155
