Wife and I had a laugh over our Elantra's speedometer highest number being 160 mph. Yeah right! Any other crazy high number on a slow car? Remember some dumb teenagers who thought the highest number meant that was it's top speed?

Bah my 1985 Camaro IROC-Z had a 85MPH speedo and well the L69 HO may of been underpowered but i am pretty sure that it did go faster the 85MPH keeping up with my Friends 1991 LX Hatchback 5.0 fox-body Mustang and a Co-workers 1987 Nissan 300ZX turbo when we went for late night high-speed cruise on the HWY

Back in the day of 55mph, they made the needle point straight up at 55. It was considered "irresponsible" to show 120 on the speedometer.

Bet if old Jimmy Carter had his way today all cars would have the limiter set to 55 mph.

My 2014 Escape 4 cylinder shows 140 MPH and 8,000 redline on the tachometer. I can't say whether that little 1.6 turbo 187 HP can really go that fast or not since I've only been up to 90 in it, but there was plenty of pedal left.

My X5M shows top speed of 180 but it is governored at 155 I think.

You can get that turned off in a tune and I bet that would be a blast ! It easily hit 150 with my wife driving !

That speed limit is downhill over the side of a cliff.

My 1988 mustang gt topped out at 85, I believe, per the speedometer. My current jeep says 140. It is limited to 110 but tops out around 130ish unlimited.

An Elantra will still hit 136-140 mph. Not a huge stretch, really.
