A car is considered a depreciating asset. If you sell it for less then you paid (as most people do) then you don't have to pay income tax.

A house on the other hand, will almost always appreciate assuming you are not caught in a bubble.

So you're trying to say that everyone should have a Bugatti Veyron on their driveway, or at least a Porsche 918. I don't know about that.

I think it's been said here already, but I'll go ahead and repeat it since I'm not sure if this thread is for real.

Did you know that house design, floor plan design and construction requires engineers also?

Then go to Detroit and buy some of those $75 houses. Look how old those houses are do you think your car would look any better. You can go and buy that very expensive car that you want and then take you date home , wait your car is your home. Some people like being car poor.

Something is only worth what the next person will pay for it.

an $800,000 house would be worth a lot less or worthless if you killed a couple of people in it, said it was haunted, put it next to toxic waste dump, at the end of a runway or in the middle of a blighted neighborhood.

an $800,000 car with a bunch of miles, or let a couple of feral cats shack up in it for a weekend, or register it to an owner in Fallujah.

It is all about condition for cars and location for house. But yes, the sum total of the plastic, steel, glass etc in a car is probably only a few grand for ANY car, but that rules out the engineering, logistics and labor. Just like most homes would probably be a few thousand dollars at a Lowe's, but that won't include.

You are only worth about 60-80 bucks in chemicals and a few gallons of water.

A basic ranch style house is about 100k.
