Thanks, but I don't think you understand Houston's street flooding, nor my question.

The new Jeep Renegade is small, car like, and is supposed to handle 19" of water. And it's priced reasonably.

Amphicar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There really is no good small fuel efficient car for flood areas. . That's like asking what's the best footwear for snow ... but oh by the way, I don't want to wear boots, I want to wear sandals.

I think a rudder and some ballast could have helped

Most people that don't live in flood-prone areas don't understand. I live in Atlanta and 5 feet of water accumulated in less than 15 minutes.

Now, to answer your question... A car won't really do anything. I recommend a 4Runner because the gas mileage is descent for an SUV.
