merging into highways is exactly why you need to pay attention to 0-60; merging into highways where everyone is going 80mph and all you can get is 35mph when you floor the gas pedal is a recipe for disaster

this is the number one reason i am getting rid of my new Outback

A car with good 0-60MPH performance means I can merge a LOT easier.

My daily driver has 300HP. My girlfriend's has 150HP. On a recent trip loaded up with luggage...I thought I was going to die merging onto a few highways.

Oh and it's also fun watching that speedometer needle wrap around.

Thanks to roadwork there is one entry point where it is 0 to 60mph to merge on the highway on my commute. Otherwise, it always has been about 30mph to 70mph type roll in. Depending if you have vehicles ahead also merging.

Every man with testosterone wants a fast car. I've been talking to my wife about an SRT Charger and she doesn't understand why I could possibly want that when I have a BMW 745I, itself very fast and 'more elegant.' Best to accept that you will never really understand men as we will never really understand women.

Why was 60mph chosen?
Why not 0-55 since that's our National Speed Limit?

And that's why I never do my shopping on Rt-1. I don't have any 300hp cars

Most of the on-ramps in MA are like 10 car lengths, probably similar to that exit with roadwork where you are. It's definitely safer to have a fast car for highway merging here.

FYI. I'm a right lane driver and I try to stay within 5 miles over the posted speed limit.
You must have some very long on-ramps where you are from, or you have a very slow car. When I hit an on-ramp I want that car up to freeway speed as fast as I can shoot thru the on-ramp. Makes it safer to merge with traffic.

Lets talk about right hand lanes. We drove down to the LA area and for the most part, right hand lanes around here are used to exit the freeway and no I am not talking about a dedicated exit lane. If you are not in the right hand lane you might not make your exit. People seem to move away from the right hand lane as it is used to enter and exit the freeway. I prefer the far left lane, where I can hug the wall. My wife hates that but I tell her the wall is safe. I have never seen the wall move over and get in the way of a car. People can hit walls but walls do not hit people. We usually have kids with us so going to the far left lane opens up the possibility of using the diamond lane when available. Although many times you end up with some yahoo out there driving slower than the speed limit.
