Ford Focus: I cannot speed the car more than 30 mph even if I step on gas pad hard and make a loud noice. It happened just a moment ago (7:30 pm). Maybe I was in rush and did not warm up the car, but I don't think I need to warm up the car, since it is not early morning and the temperature is around 30F.

It was a new car and I have driven more than 20k mileage. When should I change air filter? Don't know much about mechanic.

Thanks.

Are any warning lights on?

That's not normal, and if it only has 20K miles, it should be under warranty. Get it to a dealer tomorrow.

You jam the gas that car should almost jump.

Did you have it in Drive (or 4th) or did you possibly have it in 1st gear?

It was dark, and I am not sure if I mistakenly put it in L.

I did drive one mile then came back.

Warning light came up a few days ago, but it is low tire pressure. The warning light has nothing to do with it, I drove with the warning light for a few days, did not have time to take care of it right now. The low pressure warning light has came up 2-3 times before, and it is normal. My car shows the error message related to warning light, no need error reader.

I was thinking more the Check Engine light or, if it has it, the transmission warning light or temperature gauge at maximum.

It may have been dark but if your lights are on the gear indicators would light.

I wouldn't ignore the low tire pressure light. They usually do come on for a reason.

Have you driven it since this happened?

What does L mean? Not sure if I put it on L position, but I re-tested my car and it is fine now.

I was so upset just now, since it never happened like that. I hated to go to autoshop to repair car, it is very costly.

I did not mean ignoring low tire pressure, and I will take care of it this weekend.

There was a snow storm a few days ago, and it is inconvenient to drive around to take care of low tire pressure.

Anyway, the car is fine now.

If it's a new car with only 20K it should still be covered by the 3 year/36K bumper to bumper warranty and the 5 year/50K engine and drive train warranty.

"L' means low or first gear. It will stay in that gear and not upshift. Driving in it will limit your speed and will sound loud.

Then that could be the reason. I may mistakenly put it on L. Never used L before.

You need a manual transmission. It will help you learn a lot more about cars.

And probably strand him in the parking lot if he's having trouble manipulating an automatic.

Stick shifts are dead for general purposes, time to enter the 21st Century.
