Thank you. I was about to say almost the same thing. I sit here in my third floor room and watch idiots trying to parallel park their cars all day long. Me, I taught myself to parallel park and I park my car with no problem whatsoever.

I once parked in a restaurant parking lot to go to the liquor store next door. The owner of the restaurant blocked me in but I had a Jeep and drove over the curb and left lol.

Okay, you're making a category error here, because in this case you were the one being a jerk.

I have seen idiots repeatedly parking over the line making it nearly impossible for another car to park in. If I am by myself, I will squeeze into that spot the best I can making sure I am in between the lines just make their bad parking stand out. Maybe if they are the ones that cant get into their own car due to their bad parking they will think twice next time. I always take a picture too in case there is damage to my vehicle, at least this way I have their license plate and picture to prove how they were parked compared to mine.

One time, I had some guy park so close to me that I had to get in my passenger side so before I did so I took the gum out of my mouth and stuck it under his door handle for a nice surprise when he returned.

Another time I was unable to back out of the spot because the guy parked so close to me. I made several attempts before going into the coffee shop and asking who the truck belonged to. The guy came forward and acted like he was drunk, so I called him out on it. I was a complete a** to him. When he got into the truck to move it someone said that he goes there all the time and he isn't drunk but has a disability. I felt pretty bad and apologized to the guy and thanked him for moving.

Yes! That poor other car owner! So sad for them!

Thinking about these posts^^ and trying to imagine the OP's situation in my real life...

What if you "killed her with kindness" so to speak? When she said no, she was not going to move her car, I would love to calmly say, with a big smile on my face, "No? Well, since I can't go anywhere, I'll just wait with you!" And just move right along with her through the line, telling the people behind me in line "don't worry, I'm not cutting--I already have my drink, see? Just waiting with my new friend here since I can't leave until she moves her car" and just shrug, like what else am I gonna do? Then ask her all kinds of questions about herself, or just talk about myself "I work part-time in law office--of course, I'm going to be late today, but at least I'll have a new friend and a story I can tell all the partners about!"

It'd be annoying as heck, but the peer pressure from others in line might convince to go move her dang car.
I love that last idea! Great suggestion. Keying cars, denting them, flattening tires, are all stupid suggestions, but this one rocks.

It's never happened at a parking lot, but our driveway gets blocked fairly regularly. I live in an inner suburban neighborhood that was once full of working class families in 2 family houses. Each apartment might have had 1 car and everyone else either walked or took a bus at the end of the street. As rent increased in the Boston area, more people like me - young professionals living with roommates - began to move in and the number of cars skyrocketed. There are 20 houses, at least 40 apartments apartments, on my street and less than half of them have driveways - and even those with driveways generally don't have space for everyone. Parking is at a premium.

At least once every few months, my roommate has to wake me up to move my car so he can get his car out thanks to some jerk who blocked him in completely. Often the car is familiar - we know it's someone who lives on the street - but we have no way of knowing who it is though I suspect its one of the long-time residents of the street who are angry. They have been known to slash tires if you park in "their" space on the street even a week after a snowstorm. We leave really angry, pointed notes instead because we don't want *our* cars to get trashed.

Luckily, cars choosing to block our entire driveway doesn't happen too frequently, but it happens. The police and tow trucks are never quick enough to get to it before the person comes out angry that I'm loudly on the phone calling a tow. :P It's crazy to block my car in, too, because I'm in the middle of a 3 car wide driveway - you know exactly what you're doing when you block in 2 cars.

They can generalize all they want but insurance rates for men are higher than women for a reason.

My neighbors have been known to do this. In our townhouse development, everyone gets 2 spaces. My neighbors have lots of "friends and people" who stay at the house, so they're forever parking 2 in the spaces, then one or two of their cars in front of those, blocking a lane in the street. Sheriff's dept. that patrols has gone at them more than once for it. They like to try and park in others spaces too. They got pretty pissed off at us one night when I started banging on their door at 1030pm one night after my wife and I got home to make them move their car out of my space. They had a fit the other day, another one of their cars wouldn't start so they had a third one in my wife's space trying to jump it. They weren't happy when the wife told them to move, she wasn't carrying the baby, his accessories and the groceries in from the visitors spaces out on the main street.

I always look for what I call an "end piece", which is the parking spot that is next to a median. I make sure to park with the driver's side door on the same side of the median. Since I drive a Mini, that is like open season for big-azz-vehicle drivers to squeeze me in. I always get an end piece a good walk away from the entrance, as i'm betting most people will be too lazy to walk that far, and i'm right most of the time

If there are no end pieces available I just park as far away from the entrance as I can and cross my fingers before going in

I had this happen once. I did what you did, went into the (large store) and had the owner of the vehicle paged. She ignored. So I timed how long I had to wait (I am unable to climb over the console in my small vehicle). Then I stood at her driver's door and refused to move. She insisted, I told her that I was going to block her from getting in her car for the same amount of time she had me blocked. She reached to move me and I calmly told her she was verging on a criminal complaint for assault. So, she decided to climb in through the back of her very large SUV. Nice. In her full length fur coat. So after she got all the way forward, I stood behind her vehicle. I kept checking my watch. There were many witnesses and she did put her car in reverse but stopped short of moving. After the 25 min I had to wait were up, I calmly moved and watched very carefully to see that she did not hit my vehicle. BTW, I was ahead of schedule for that day, and not in any hurry.
