Yes, you never know when some idiot is going to rear end your truck, total it, and you need a back up car.
The last time that happened, I had to settle for some little hamstermobile that the insurance company said they would approve.
I kept my last car when I upgraded my wifes car last year. Now I have a back up car I know and trust. Its just not the most uptodate or glamours vehicle, but it works.
Insurance is cheap so its worth it for peace of mind.
Ever since 2004 we always have a back up car. School of hard knocks lesson. MOF I rotate my two hybrids on daily commute. Cuts mileage build up in a half.
Back up car is handy.
We always had a back up. Last was my wife's GMC. I also have a work truck. We decided to sell our 3rd vehicle because we didn't "need" it. So we sold it. Then the company decided to take all service trucks away.
Then my wife's car had a issue with a sensor. The dealer had the car for two weeks. I had to rent a car. It cost me more to rent that car for two weeks than it cost to have that third vehicle for two years.
We bought my wife a new car and her old car became our third vehicle.
I dont think I'll ever have less than 3 cars.
We ran 2 cars for years. I got in trouble once years ago when we had 4 cars, but only 1 had a plate on it and I used that one to commute. Pretty quickly I sold 2 and put a plate on the other 1.
We are old timers now and only run 1 car. Some days we don't go out at all.
I have a 88 CRX Si, a 95 Del Sol VTEC and a 98 Integra GSR I drive all of them but the GSR the most because I like it the most and its the easiest one to replace.
If the cost is minimal, there are plenty of advantages to having a spare vehicle.
It might be a sports car to have fun on weekends. It could be an SUV or Truck to haul stuff. Or it might just be a backup incase your main car gets a flat tire or dead battery.
Yes. I have a 1987 Trans Am GTA that I have sunk a lot of money into, and it just sits in the garage taking up space. I seldom drive it, and when I went to start it a few days ago I discovered the fuel pump has now gone out. If I sold it I might get $3k for it, when I know I've spent over $10k fixing it up.
