My father had an Olds 98 similar to this one back in 1970. Ah... those were the days. Rear wheel drive, V8 engine, seats six comfortably, huge trunk, 10 MPG, rides like a smooth ocean liner, and pretty safe in a collision. What's not to love?
Today's cars are tiny little boxes on wheels; you could fit two Corollas in the volume of one Olds or Caddy from that era.
Sure, they were wasteful polluters, but with modern technology they could be cleaned up, maybe even fitted with hybrid electric drive trains.
Why can't an auto maker bring these monsters back? There's definitely a nostalgia market, and that's the kind of car that can just eat up the miles on long highway trips. I'd get one.
Ah, for the good old days. Wish I'd gotten a Cutlass S back when the getting was good; my childhood friend drove one, but I never did follow through on that. The kind of car all the high school guys were driving, easy to work on, fun to cruise around in, cheap.

I miss the 1972 El Camino SS I had in the early 2000s, but then I recently bought a 2013 Challenger, and that pretty much makes up for it. That was after considering several 69-72 Chevelles, Novas, a 442, and a Skylark.
They wouldn't sell enough of them to come close to even covering development costs.
I don't really miss the old land yachts because I have one! It's a 1972 Plymouth Fury with the 440 inch motor. It's an ex Virginia State Police car, unmarked sergeant's car, jet black with the little bitty hubcaps, spotlight and "highway whip" radio antenna on the back deck.
I bought it at auction in '74 or '75 for cheap. Back then it scared the hell of people that thought I was a cop...LOL. Nowadays, hardly anybody knows what it was.
I bought it on a whim, never thought I'd still own it 40+ years later. It's been garage kept the whole time and looks as good today as it did in the 70's.
I still love to whomp on it and hear that big four barrel dump...you can watch the fuel gauge drop! That damned thing will still bark the rear tires when it hits second gear! LOL
I miss my old 1978 Caprice sometimes, great for long road trips like driving a sofa down the road. If I still had it today I'd change some things though, I'd pull out the weak 305 and TH350 and replace them with a significantly more powerful fuel injected 350 and 4L60E. It would probably get 20+ mpg with that combo.
The market for them today is filled by SUVs and crew cab pickups, I doubt large cars will make a comeback.
Lots of fun those big cars were. My aunt once had a 72 Fury that was a former highway cruiser with the 440. It was a green tank that could've been used in a war!

Yes. Best cars on the road. I really miss the old Cadilac Eldorado convertible. White with red interior! You could live in the trunk.
Also miss my '65 Lincolin with the suicide doors. That was a car!
