Nice generalization. For some, cars are alot more than just A to B, and it has nothing to do with "needing a fancy car to feel better".
Post #3; the OP said: "Well yeah, that is exactly right, I am attempting to show off to my peers." Which is to say: his self worth is tied into a pile of metal, plastic and steel.
Roll eyes, indeed. Some people need to check their values.

Exactly. When a middle class person says they want a Maserati, it's to impress someone. There are plenty of cars that are fast and great-looking that are more appropriate for someone of normal income. Personally if I wanted fast, I'd rather have a Charger or something like that. I wouldn't even consider a manual trans because on regular roads when the right lane ends in 50 feet, the only thing that counts is the first 10 seconds.
I live alone, I'm 24 and my salary is around 73k. My monthly rent is $900. I am looking at either getting a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 or a 2017 Lincoln MKZ or a 2014 Maserati Ghibli all for which go around 36-40k. I want to keep the car for 3-4 years. I am wondering if I am exceeding my financial limits by buying a $40,000 car?
There's a percentage somewhere, championed by economists, and i'm too lazy to bother looking it up, similar to "how much you should spend on rent" and other things, but rest assured when it comes to cars, whoever put a percentage on it sure wasn't a car enthusiast.
As a car enthusiast there is no upper limit to what I would pay for a car if I want it enough, there is nothing wrong with spending money on your passions if you have enough to do so after bills / retirement/ savings are taken care of. I say this because when people hear what I drive or what I pay/paid for it they are quick to judge, but it all evens out on my books, and everyone has their pleasures and vices. I used to travel a lot for example, now I travel never and am content hanging out where I live year round, but I will drive a nice car and enjoy it on a daily basis.
wayyy better color too. I didn't see anything about heated seats, which would be an immediate turn off for the vehicle. Do BMW's come with heated seats already without it being a feature?
Also, some good news as I suspected, I have just shy of 18k in the bank.
So you're going to wipe out your entire account to buy a car or did I read that wrong?
