I had to really think to remember the last sedan we had - it was a 1980 Datsun 210. After the 3rd kid we traded it in on a minivan in 1987,and since then only SUVs and pickups. Currently I have an F150 and my wife has an Escape. Still, there are a lot of sedans, like Civics, Accords, amd Camrys around on the roads.
Well, it’s been a while since then (early 90’s) but we were seriously looking st the Cadillac but then we looked at the MB.
No contest.
It depends on what years you are referring to.
But if the criteria is a roomy rear compartment, big & plush seats and a very smooth ride, then the pre-1977 Cadillac comes out on top. Along with the pre-1980 Lincoln Continental and the 1975 and earlier Imperial, of course.

I drive 30,000 miles a year and can't afford to get 12 mpg. And I'd like to be able to park in a normal parking lot.
Frankly I'm sick of the lookalike pieces of garbage crossovers....nay I'll take my sedan, but a TRUCK is a TRUCK, and SUV is sorta a truck, but these little bubble-looking pieces of crap are just that
Other than a 1972 Ford Maverick family hand-me-down, any car I've ever purchased from 1981 onwards has had some kind of tailgate or liftgate. I've never understood why anyone would want to own a sedan.
Frankly, unless someone does a lot of hauling or uses a pick-up for their job, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t rather have a SUV or crossover. More passenger room and much classier...
I’m considering a sedan for my next car. Like the comfortable ride.

Some time you should sit in the back seat of a crew cab pickup, the most common being bought now. They seat 6, with far more leg, head, and hip room than any sedan on the market regardless of size. My supercab seats 3 back there comfortably, even with two toddlers in car seats a large adult fits nicely.
F150 Crew Cab:
Second Head Room : in 40.4 Second Leg Room : in 43.6 Second Shoulder Room : in 65.9 Second Hip Room : in 64.7
Lincoln Continental:
Second Head Room : in 37.7 Second Leg Room : in 41.3 Second Shoulder Room : in 55.9 Second Hip Room : in 54.8
I think most people have a large crossover, pickup truck, or minivan as their family or over-the-road-vehicle, but they still have a small sedan or hatch as a second/commuter vehicle. I suppose now people can drive something like a Ford EcoSport or a Toyota CHR instead of a Focus or Corolla and they’re about the same length and get 10% less fuel economy or so.
