What car is currently being manufactured that could be considered a grandpa car? What's the closest thing to a big Cadilac or Lincoln or Crown Vic from the 80s / 90s? I want something roomy, super smooth ride, beautifully understated classy exterior. Must be a car, not an SUV. Thanks for any suggestions!
Hmmmm, there aren't many sedans being made any more, and big, cushy sedans are significantly rarer - I can't think of any that are "affordable". Chevy made their Impala through the 2020 model year - you can probably find a low-mileage one of those used.
A 2023 Chrysler 300S, rear wheel drive with the Hemi V8, an 8 speed auto trans, the Comfort Group package, the Safety Group package, and the Velvet Red paint job.
$51K out the door - and the last year for the last (somewhat) big American made sedan with a V8 and rear wheel drive.
I'm old enough to remember the Cadillac DeVilles, Lincoln Town Cars, and Ford Crown Vics from the 1970's to the 2000's. The Chrysler 300 is more Crown Vic than Caddy or Lincoln. If you want more luxury, go high end German or high end Japanese.
Toyota Avalon or Lexus ES. If budget doesn’t matter, a Mercedes S class Maybach is $200k…which is weird to me as the AMG S classes are noticeably higher priced than Maybach.

P.S. It's in another price class, but Lincoln still made the Continental until 2020 as well. If you can find one of these (or the Impala) that was owned by a retired person, they don't usually put on too many miles per year.
