Yeah if you want to burn the crap out of yourself and fudge your engine up, go ahead.
Did you seriously just ask that?!

Either the filters you buy here in the states are absolute ****, or Motorweek is feeding you lies.

On my EDM 98 Corolla I change the oil and oil filter roughly every 9.300 miles as the service manual and Toyota say it requires, and out cars run well into the 200.000nds or more with that treatment.

Most important is to run your engine on Synthetic, if that's what it's built for. Which all 95 and up Japanese and European cars generally are.

I'm just mocking the thread titled "You can't change the oil with the engine running, can you?"

This is what I meant. My current oil is a synthetic so I want to extend its oil capability till 3k more miles.

Decades ago would start up my engine on the front lawn...when warm opened the valve on the side of the block or at the bottom of the radiator...ran water from the garden hose untill water was clear.

Sure...oil could be changed the same way...STUPID YES but possible.

Only need is two people...a SUPER LARGE pan to catch the oil coming out the drain plug and a 2nd person pouring fresh oil in the same time. The need may be for 10-15 gals of oil...but still feasable.

Never heard of this being done...still there are some who might try it when a person has nothing else to do.

The Motorweek site also recommends oil/filter changes every 3K miles.

Most people who don't insist simply on doing things the way their dad did know the manufacturer's recommendations are much more meaningful.

Motorweek says to flush the radiator every year. That is a ridiculous waste of time and money.

I think the owner's manual should be the definitive source of information on any vehicle's maintenance schedule.

You never know, for some these may be valid questions; leaving an engine running when changing oil, just changing a filter, etc.

To others with some sense and experience they are no brainers. But, it seems on a site like this (as opposed to a dedicated gear head site) some of these may be legitimate questions. I give credit to folks that answer them squarely.

There are regulars here that constantly give wrong info, such as: GATT requires that all cars sold in the U.S. are built in the U.S. So you never know.
