Hi. I wanted to have a starter put in my husbands car for valentines day-he's mentioned for a while he wants to get one-are they ok for the car? it is a 2003 ford expedition with 103000 miles on it so I dont want to push my luck with the car. Do you know a good place to have one put in? Would you have one put in at all? Cost? Thanks-

I have had remote starters on my past three cars. They will do no harm to the car but they should be installed at a dealership.

Some after market remote starts will void certain car warranties (Jeep in particular). In addition, some remotes can have an effect on the security features of certain cars.

Best to bring it to the dealer. They will properly install it and make sure it is safe for the car.

They are great for the winter.

Ive been installing them for 20 year and they do cause some harm to the starter. on a rare occasion, they have been known to "fry" a car's computer.

Ive had no starter problems at all with aftermarket installed remote starts on a Ford, Honda or Nissan.

That's why whenever I leased a new car I always had to the dealer put the remote start/alarm in the car. Yes, more expensive but I made sure the warranty for the car extened to the alarm/starter. This way if it ever did cause a problem I could never be accused of putting aftermarket products on the car.

They are fine. Just have it done at a reputable shop. Where are you located? I may have a few suggestions.

They have done 3 for me and dealers actually use them to do all of their installs so don't believe that you are better off going to a dealer , i have a 08 Honda Odyssey and it was a challenge for them but they nailed it and highly recommend them .
