Since I buy on opportunity, about all I insist on are:
Rust-free body
4 wheels
Robust build quality (older Toyota, Honda, VW, BMW, pre-74 Detroit Iron, etc.) Or sufficiently interesting/entertaining that I can forgive some build quality issues (MG, Triumph, etc.)
*Probably* something fully depreciated or nearly so, there are so many excellent older rigs out there that I can own without losing money on depreciation, that I am a very hard sell for a late model - but if the right opportunity came along, it's not impossible that I would buy something newer.
Enough power to get out of it's own way, I want a good compromise between BHP and MPG - slow but thirsty rigs like the old 80's Ford Escort (NA model, the Euro car is completely different) not much wanted.
Manual trans preferred, on most models, but I wouldn't pass on any of Fleet's fleet either (DM me if you want to sell something...)
I have one of those flocked nodding Siamese cats. It's been slammed into the hatch door a couple of times, so it doesn't nod like it used to, poor kitty.
Things like power windows, doors, AC & CD player are standard so here are my must haves for options....
1. Navigation (i'm new around here and can get lost anywhere)
2. Cooled Seats (its hot around here and something about cool air blowing up you skirt)
3. Sunroof (used to it for so many years that now feel claustrophobic without it)
