My mom lived in west Texas near one of the homes of the B-1. Nothing like the rumble of a B-1 in the morning to enhance those feelings of security.
I live in the Chicago area. And at the O'Hare Airport there is an Air Force Base. I drove past it once and caught the sight of four B-1. I was thinking when was it that they arrived. Because I did not hear them or anything. This was during the summer where I leave my windows open. And you can hear a lot of aircraft noise. But it was an awesome sight.
Just FYI, if there ever was a war. The air base is going to be one of the first things to go.......

I would think top of the list would be our boomers followed by our 3C installations.
Where I live we have 3 AF airbases and we are not listed as a first strike city.
I never saw the design before....I found it while researching and was astounded by it's simplistic beauty. To think it is a 1950's design that served as a carrier strike aircraft with the British Royal Navy during the 1960's is very impressive......apparently it was in military service for decades.
