The lack of communication from the plane suggests a catastrophic disaster of such speed that there was no time to react on the part of the crew.
I don't know but wouldn't the 777 having taken off more than 2 hours before it went missing be at an altitude that even in the event of say running out of fuel or and engine failure that there would be time for radio communications from the flight crew?
This was like a lights out situation.
According to news reports there was never a distress call. I don't want to jump to any conclusions but could a bomb have exploded on board? Obviously there wouldn't be anytime to communicate while the plane is exploding. Anyway, we'll know exactly what happened when the authorities investigate. Very sad situation.
BTW, I can't believe the press not giving the families and friends of the passengers respect and space during their moments of anguish.
Two persons travelling on Stolen Passport. This is serious breach of security. Before boarding on any International flight, Passport is swiped, stolen passport are detected and such passengers are detained and refused Boarding Pass.
First they thought those passengers were from Indonesia and then they realized that they were really Indian citizens. I read it was something to do with the similar codes used to denote both countries.
Sad to say. Its never ends well when a plane goes missing and there is very little about it on the news. Authorities do withhold information on the facts until things can be verified, in respect to the passengers and loved ones waiting for the flight to arrive. I dont fly anymore. Too many cutbacks. Not to mention cheap tickets you sometimes see. It boils down to less maintenance on aircraft. Or improperly trained employees. To me cheap and flying just dont go together.
This is exactly why I try not to fly anymore. It has nothing to do with terrorists, it has everything to do with what you just said. It all started when that plane from Mexico going up to Seattle, pit stop at LAX, crash landed in to the Pacific. It was found out later that a part of the plane malfunctioned that some worker, (forget who it was), had been trying to tell them for years that it needed to be investigated, and he got branded a whistle blower. My trust went straight out the window after that.
In addition, the U.S. Embassy said the 2:43 U.S. military bases stationed in Thailand U-Tapao SOS signal was listening to some of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 emergency call, said the aircraft cabin facing disintegration driver call, they want a forced landing . U.S. troops are currently stationed in Thailand, Malaysia has been providing this signal.
So there was an emergency call? Is that what I'm reading?
CNN had an aviation security guy on this morning who talked about an international data-base virtually all countrys have access to which contain a list of stolen/lost passports, so it would seem to be an easy task for all passengers' passports to be cross-checked against this DB when passengers are going thru security to board a flight ?
That wouldn't solve the problem. Terrorists know that a check for stolen passports would reveal them. It is much easier to use a passport from someone who has it legitimately and gives it to them for whatever purpose they have in mind.
In that case, no database is going to make a difference. Technology can only solve so much and the more complex a security system gets, the more vulnerabilities it has that can be exploited because it has become second nature to trust technology and people get inattentive.
On TV, the talking heads security experts almost always rely on some form of technology to solve security problems. Terrorists and others trying to do harm use the KISS principle. While some security agent is busy watching some scanner, checking a database or sniffing dirty underwear, the individual walks right by them with a pleasant smile on their face, an innocent demeanor and gets on the plane.
Technology isn't catching these people, passengers are, through simple observation and diligence.
We're spending billions on this. Someone must be laughing, we spend millions and billions for systems that are defeated by smiles, social behavior and determination.
Abandon our efforts? No. How about some common sense approaches to security in addition?
Lets hope that as tragic as this event is, that it was something other than a terrorist perpetrated one.

Unfortunately nowadays security is all about technology at the expense of physical presence, common sense, and the good ol human intuition. Nothing will ever be able to replace a well trained and experienced person regardless of how good the technology is.
